So you’ve decided to apply for a new job or promotion, but the entire time you are filling out the application form, you hear a voice that says “nope, don’t have that; nope, haven’t done that; nope, have no experience with that” and on it goes. By the time you get to the end of the application you have completely talked yourself out of applying for the job!

The same thing happens in your current role when it comes to stepping up for new opportunities. There is always a niggling feeling that you are not good enough, that there are others more qualified candidates or that others have more connections to sponsor them. This voice or that nagging feeling is called a Saboteur and as the name suggests it’s here to sabotage your ability to be successful in any way it can.

According to Shirzad Chamine, creator of the Positive Intelligence (Mental Fitness) program, there are 10 Saboteurs that generate our negativity, and they – when overused and over-focused on – contribute to our stress, self-doubt, frustration, regret, shame and unhappiness. The Saboteurs at play that make you doubt your abilities and affect your career goals are different for each person. The majority of people experience the Judge that may judge themselves, others, and/or the situation or circumstance. The Judge might say “You’re not the one for the role.” “Because of COVID, there is no point in trying.” “That connected person will get the job.” The Judge always has one or more accomplices. For example, the Hyper-Vigilant Saboteur tells us that we have to watch for every known risk; over-focus on this can cause us to freeze in out tracks or worry too much (like the boy who cried wolf) and may say “What if they find out that I don’t have all of the qualifications … better not even try.” Another, the Avoider would say to “Forget about it.”

The way to handle these Saboteurs is to be aware of them, interrupt them, and shift out of the negative perspective – to get in touch with your Sage. Your Sage lives in an entirely different region of your brain and handles challenges in positive ways with curiosity, empathy, creativity, calm, and clear-headed laser-focused action.

The challenge with shifting from the Saboteurs and using the Sage Powers is that it takes daily practice and focus to identify and recognize the Saboteurs to successfully create the change. Only when you are able to recognize the Saboteurs and do something with them can you shift from them to use your Sage Powers. The Positive Intelligence (Mental Fitness) program provides the practical steps and guidance for you to boost your ability to command your mind to quiet the Saboteur region and amplify the Sage region. PQ Reps support this shift and are similar to lifting weights to build your physical muscles but support the brain to build the capacity to pause the negative and shift to the positive sooner and sooner.

There are many programs and methodologies out there that talk about these negative and positive aspects and how to adapt your ways to bring in more positivity, but what they miss is the power of habit and the ability to change behaviours in a highly supported, practical manner. The Positive Intelligence (Mental Fitness) program is administered in micro-sized, consistent daily steps, so that you can not only take small steps in changing your habits but you can also work towards a goal that doesn’t require you to master these new skills overnight. You can work on coaching goals at the same time as taking the program to address things within you that are getting in the way to moving towards your leadership goals.

Coupled with a supporting “pod” of people on a similar journey, and/or a dedicated coach, you will not only experience the development of your own Sage and quiet your Saboteurs, but also experience the backing of those working alongside you.

The Positive Intelligence (Mental Fitness) program is not just to help you reach your career goals, it can also help you once you are in your desired career to build your confidence and support you in being successful in the new role and in other areas of your life.

It’s time to make some serious changes and get your career where you want it. Book an exploration call with me today, and let’s talk more about how the Positive Intelligence (Mental Fitness) program can help you get where you need to go.

Yours,

Jamie
