Getting to the HEART of the Matter … Taking Time In

We’ve heard the phrase ‘getting to the heart of the matter’.  What does getting to the heart of the matter mean?

Heart is the: core, vital component, source of creativity.  Getting to this can take some work.  In coaching, coaches really strive to support clients to get to the client’s own heart of the matter, what is meaningful for them, answers to how they can be aware of, understand, and make changes, and move forward towards what they want to achieve.  Coaches have many ways of supporting clients with this.

How can one start to get to the heart of the matter for themselves?  One way is through mindfulness.

Mindfulness can be as simple as taking time to breath deeply (e.g. breath in for a count of four, hold for a count of four, breath out for a count of four, hold for a count of four; repeat) to short guided meditations (such as this upcoming free 21 day series https://chopracentermeditation.com/) to a more focused practice such as the one below which I recently discovered …

Time In Practices (from Dr. Daniel Siegel):

  1. Integration is health for the mind.
  2. Integration comes from regular Time In Practices which cultivate integration, build circuits of the brain to tune in to self and others (attunement), and provide a feeling of safety, stability, clarity, and coherence. These activate circuits of the brain that link widely separated areas of the brain.  Integrative circuits become active and grow.  These are regulatory circuits.
  3. Tune In Practices, used consistently, can improve bodily regulation, attuned communication and relationships, emotional balance, fear extinction, flexibility, insight, empathy, morality, and intuition and creativity.
  4. Tune In Practices (http://www.drdansiegel.com/resources/):
    • Breath Awareness, and
    • Wheel of Awareness.

Mindfulness:  It is amazing how something so simple can make such a profound impact.  I invite you try one or more Mindfulness practices for yourself and see what difference it makes for you.
